New Perspectives on Built Environment Models for Pedestrian Navigation
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a map modelling toolkit that meets the special requirements of pedestrian navigation in intelligent environments. Its central component is a graphical editor, which supports the geometric modelling and visualization of built environments in 3D. Multiple levels and their interconnections, such as ramps and staircases, can be represented through layers. The toolkit also integrates a route finding module for pedestrian navigation applications. The model and the route can be shown as an orthogonal (maplike) projection or from different perspective viewpoints; the allocentric viewpoint shows the model from outside (bird’s view), the egocentric viewpoint shows the model from the user’s perspective inside the building. Landmark objects can be included and the visibility of signage or public displays can be virtually evaluated using the avatar. Various animations can be created to visualize the route, including transitions between the perspectives.

Simulation of Pedestrian Dynamics with Macroscopic and Microscopic Mathematical Models
Here, we collect two parts of a research project on the pedestrian flow modeling. Rapid growth in the volume of public transport and the need for its reasonable, efficient planning have made the description and modeling of transport and pedestrian behaviors as important research topics in the past twenty years. First, we present a macroscopic model for the pedestrian flow based on continuum mec...

ABSTRACT A vibrant and commercially active center is often the result of interesting, diverse building styles and or built-forms, pedestrian density along with variety of quality public places where people feel comfortable, spending time and shopping items for domestic and commercial functions in cities like Addis Ababa. The scale and design of buildings, pedestrian density, and other phy...
متن کاملA GIS data model for landmark-based pedestrian navigation
Landmarks provide the most predominant navigation cue for pedestrian navigation. Very few navigation data models in the geographical information science and transportation communities support modeling of landmarks and use of landmark-based route instructions for pedestrian navigation services. This article proposes a landmark-based pedestrian navigation data model to fill this gap. This data mo...
متن کاملPolicy, Research and Residents’ Perspectives on Built Environments Implicated in Heart Disease: A Concept Mapping Approach
An underrepresentation of stakeholder perspectives within urban health research arguably limits our understanding of what is a multi-dimensional and complex relationship between the built environment and health. By engaging a wide range of stakeholders using a participatory concept mapping approach, this study aimed to achieve a more holistic and nuanced understanding of the built environments ...
متن کاملCoupling force-based and graph-based models for multi-agent wayfinding in complex environments
In this paper, we propose a new 2D simulation model for large-scale pedestrian crowds. The agents in the model navigate along a navigation graph that represents all possible paths in the environment. Therefore the agents compute a route in the navigation graph from their origin to the desired destination. While moving along the graph, the agents keep track on the other agents and obstacles in t...
